Accessories are better when they aren’t perfectly matching - they’re conspiring. Here are six vintage designer bag-and-watch combos and who I think would wear them.
1. she plans her outfits around her drink order
Daisies (1966), dir. Věra Chytilová
She orders the seasonal drink without asking what’s in it. She chooses restaurants for the interiors and drinks for the glassware. She’ll walk six blocks out of her way for the perfect matcha.
The pink GG watch picks up the bag’s rosy handles and bows without making the combination feel too coordinated. The green keeps everything unexpected. It’s color theory for people who would rather be ordering matcha.

The Haunted House of Horror (1969), dir. Michael Armstrong
She keeps a lighter in her bag even though she doesn’t smoke. She knows everyone’s moon sign and leaves parties without saying goodbye. The photos from her tiny digital camera arrive three weeks later, all slightly blurred.

The FENDI bag has olive-and-black tiger stripes, camel leather and a gold FF clasp. The watch pulls out the green and gold. She wears both with black and calls it getting dressed.

The FERRAGAMO is black suede with a silver Gancini clasp, quiet until the light catches it. The GUCCI watch wraps around the wrist like a miniature belt, all polished metal and black dial. She wears both with a trench coat and lets the wind do what it wants.
